General tips

The simplest way to recognise Belgium is the pinkish blur on the license plates, which use red text. The plates can also have a blue strip on the right instead of the usual European left. If you're in a city or town in Belgium, look out for the street signs - sometimes mounted on building walls - which print the town name along with the street name.

Plates

Belgian plates have a blue EU strip and red text on a white background. The plates should almost all have a pinkish blur.

Road markings

Road signs

Road signs may be in either Dutch/Flemish or French in Belgium. The signs are often similar to the neighbouring countries of France and the Netherlands, but there are subtle differences.

Bollards

Belgium has a unique bollard which is white with a yellow rectangle.

Poles

Poles in Belgium are similar to the French ones. It's important to know that there are few very utility poles in the Netherlands, so seeing any at all is useful way to distinguish the two!

Scenery

Belgium's landscape and is generally very flat and the architecture is distinctly western European. You will find brownish and red rectangular buildings, often with black rooves.

Car metas

Belgium has one car meta - you can occasionally find a halo from a red google car, specifically by the city of Hasselt.

Miscellaneous

Belgians are quite proud of their provinces' history and you can sometimes find province crests or names throughout.
